Fall & Winter Tips
NOTE TO THE PUBLIC
As the cooler months of 2008 quickly come upon us, I believe it is time to give everyone a few safety reminders:
VEHICLE TIPS
1. Keep your vehicle well tuned to avoid unnecessary breakdowns to a minimum.
2. Keep your vehicle full of fuel.
3. Keep extra clothing or a blanket in your vehicle for those 'just in case' situations such as breaking down in the middle of nowhere.
4. Keep your cellphones charged so that you can call for help if the need should arise.
5. Make sure your tire tread is adequate to propel your vehicle through slick terrains.
DRIVING TIPS
1. Watch out for leaves, standing water, snow, and ice while traveling the roadways, each of these are common causes for a vehicle to lose traction causing an accident.
2. Slow down, leave a few minutes early when heading to work/school, being late is no excuse for an accident.
HOME TIPS
1. Make sure to have your heating unit inspected and cleaned by a licensed professional to insure your heating unit is working properly.
2. If you use heating units powered by alternative fuels such as propane or kerosene, be sure to keep the areas around the heater clear to prevent fires and keep extra fuel for those 'just in case' situations.
3. Insure that you have enough food and water in your home to feed your family for a few days should an emergency arise, such as road closures or mass power outages.
4. And again, make sure to keep your cellphone charged in case of emergencies.
This is just another safety reminder brought to you by the Danville Volunteer Fire Department.
